MANIA / HAL HUCTHINSON split tape
Mania has 15 minutes piece. At the best it's actually almost like death industrial song falling apart. BDN'ish synth noise tone and klang of the metal pipe and smashed sheet metal etc. It has the known clear and strong Mania sound, but compared to recent 7", perhaps this tracks falls apart into more abstract form. Good stuff.
HH, with yet another acoustic metal junk recording. I thought it WILL get old at some point, and maybe it will, but not yet! This is even noisier, even more energy-fueled than his previous efforts. Whirlwind of all sorts of metal junk objects storms ahead with no mercy. Sounds are good, details are good, energy level is good. Only complaint could be composition of overall track. It starts and stops and between it simply maintains the atmosphere. When stuff is this good, I don't miss any structural changes within 15 minute track, but in future it may be issue to remember.

Grotesque Mirth begins with fierce, attacking feedback and fluttering electronics combined with slow, cavernous percussion hits. More noise is carefully added to the toxic mixture as the percussion becomes more pervasive. The feedback takes various forms bringing to mind the cover's presentation of a pallet of grotesque images. The track's movement begins to slow down until it finally comes to a screeching halt.

The b-side fades in as electrical hum crackles throughout your speakers. Sonic attacks periodically take form along with buried maniacal vocals. You could swear the smell of amplifier heat can be made out amidst the decayed electronics pummeling your speakers. The track blends into a humming mass of filthy, metallic-noise and feedback combined with deranged vocals and Mania's trademark metal junk noise until it all blazes away in a trail of feedback.

The 7-inch is a well crafted work of art both sonically and visually. The covers are a true testament to the collage artwork of Mania. The images presented alongside the sonic entity of Grotesque Mirth wallows in filth and depravity like no other artist, culminating in a perverse document on the feeble state of the human body.

Art Edition: The art edition comes with an authentic piece of Mania artwork. My art is on tarpaper measuring approximately 7.5 x 6 inches and uses Polaroid and magazine pictures with red and black paint to create a stark, violent mixture of birth, sex and death. The art edition of Grotesque Mirth is truly a showcase of Mania's artwork that is sometimes as harrowing as the music itself.

Those who did not pick up the original 2x cass. rel. of MANIA & BIZARRE UPROAR's "Charnel Heap" due to reports of low volume levels will be more than happy with Filth & Violence's version: much improved sound quality plus you don't have to keep getting up to switch tapes as each artist has all their material on their respected sides. The cover art has been altered & brand new art was created for the inside cover.

B.U.'s material is particularly nasty & the MANIA/B.U. collab is the closest I've gotten to 'pure' harsh noise since the "Miserable Disposition" tape.

The artwork is phenomenal and compliments the music wonderfully. It's as if K---- managed to tear off a piece of filth from all corners of this sick society and fuse the pieces together to create this grotesque presentation of reality. The abomination is limited to 100 copies with a labeled, clear tape housed in a clear bag with folding cover. Aggrievous Abominations & Disorder is, like always, high-quality industrial-power electronic music. Amidst its noise/power electronics contemporaries, this stands out by harkening back to the noisy-industrial music underground of the past where labels and genres were thrown to the wayside. The amount of detail and atmosphere really brings the tape to a whole new level. Blending maniacal vocals, metal abuse, extreme frequencies from the entire spectrum along with a broken electronic atmosphere, Mania brings to life a lively electronic display of agony and disgust. The vocals this time around are pure gold. In fact, they might be the best vocals on any Mania release. Not only is the intensity and metal abuse still intact, but a new dimension has opened up this time around bringing the listener into new realms of depravity and desolation.
